Maggie’s Centres

Maggie’s provides free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their families and friends, offering a programme that has been shown to strengthen physical and emotional wellbeing. Built in the grounds of NHS hospitals, Maggie’s Centres are designed by leading architects to be warm, welcoming and full of light and open space. They are places to find practical advice about benefits and eating well; places where qualified experts provide emotional support; places to meet other people or to simply sit quietly with a cup of tea.

Every two months Give a Book sends bags of books to Maggie’s Centre to supply their reading groups. We have also sent nearly a hundred books directly to Maggie’s Cheltenham for their reading groups.

Testimonials

With Give a Book’s kind donation in providing us with our books, enabling us to meet as a book group, I have witness the blossoming of many of our members in their well-being and optimismAndrea Reid

Cancer not only affects your physical health. It has a devastating effect on you mental wellbeing and can affect finances through being unable to work. The free provision of the books enables all people affected by cancer to participate irrespective of their financial position. The books also engross you in another world taking your mind off the physical problems you are going through. I always look forward to the next book and nothing better than sitting in the garden on a nice sunny day, nose buried in our book club books. – Pauline
